Australian Koala Foundation

The Australian Koala Foundation engaged QTree to do a baseline survey on a 230 ha research property of theirs near Crows Nest (north of Toowoomba). In late 2019 the property was very badly and extensively burnt as part of the black summer bushfires. Although this was an unfortunate event, it provided the opportunity for QTree's director (Derek) to commence a five year study on the recovery of koala habitat after fire. This was done as a Ph.D study, funded by the AKF and administered and supervised by the University of the Sunshine Coast. Results from that study - ResearchGate. Also see the Koala Habitat Atlas, which is a key product of the AKF and was an important reference for this research.

Pine Rivers Catchment Association

Derek joined the PRCA about 20 years ago but only recently became more involved, and has been a member of the board of management for the last few years, and served as chair in 2022-25. The PRCA board and team manage the catchments of the North and South Pine Rivers, and most of that focus is riparian weed management (mostly cats claw creeper and Madeira vine), including biological control. Key clients are Seqwater and the City of Moreton Bay. We are also strongly involved in native area replanting, koala habitat restoration, wildlife corridor planning and water quality monitoring. Here is the link to the PRCA website.

Earth & Every

Earth & Every is an environmental advocacy that promotes regulatory best practice for biodiversity, water and climate change, and regularly makes submissions to regulators where proponents' submissions are deficient or misleading. QTree provides technical advice when needed, on issues related to vegetation, water flows and water quality, and general ecology. E & E has offices in Sydney and Hong Kong, and members and interns in many other locations including Brisbane and Melbourne. E & E are on LinkedIn.
